THE CHALLENGE
STEM education is essential for preparing students for college and career readiness across all industries, not just STEM disciplines. Modern employers list problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, decisiveness, and analytical skills as their most sought-after skills in future employees. Developing solutions, working in teams, making decisions, obtaining and processing information, and analyzing data are necessary for every career field. All of these skills are also by-products of STEM learning.
This project will allow Father Judge High School to expand its STEM offerings while allowing all students, across all grade levels, in all disciplines, to have the opportunity to gain exposure and experience in an area that is used across multiple and varied career paths. To support our goal of having students ready for college and career we propose a Makerspace which will allow students to work in a collaborative environment used to develop their STEM projects. This Makerspace will be an area of collaboration with flexible grouping that allows for increased dialogue among students. Students will have the ability to work individually, and/or in a group while having direct access to 3D printers. This 3D printing area and Makerspace will give our students the ability to essentially “print” whatever is needed to complete their projects (such as additional parts or components of an engineered design), while also providing opportunities to teach our students how the connections among coding, design, engineering principles, and other STEM-related activities work to open new pathways for students to engage in Project Based Learning (PBL). The space will be designed to allow students to fully collaborate regardless of the location of the printers, tables, and chairs as the walls will be designed as collaboration boards allowing for a fully functional drawing and design to occur.
$2 million has been raised since the inception of the President's Cup in 2007.
Event Features Include:
Lunch, registration and gift package for all participants
18 holes of “Shamble” format at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale
