Mission:

The mission of the Edward A. Peters Memorial Scholarship is to recognize a high school sophomore who exhibits outstanding behavior in his academic, athletic, faith and community life.

Origin:

The Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 by the family of Edward A. Peters, Sr. and by a generous donation from the Drumcliff Foundation and more specifically, Daniel F. Gordon.   The purpose is to honor the memory of our Father, Husband, Uncle and Friend.

About Edward A. Peters

Edward A. Peters, Sr. was a proud graduate of St. John Neumann High School in 1957.  He was married to Moira Maloney for over 30 years and had five children.  His three sons were in the Father Judge graduating classes of ’82, ’88 & ’93 and his daughter’s graduated from St. Hubert’s in 1983 and 1986.

Edward believed in the strong teachings of St. Francis De Sales which are exhibited throughout Father Judge on a daily basis.  He felt that being dedicated to hard work, being able to get back up when you stumble, aiming higher if you should fall short of an accomplishment, always finishing what you started, never quitting, and being proud of all that you’ve accomplished -- were all part of building your character during your formidable high school years and would prepare you for life beyond your days at Father Judge.

The Scholarship:

This scholarship is for the student-athlete who demonstrates the characteristics that our Father and Mother instilled in us at a very young age -- strong faith, dedication to hard work and commitment to family -- will lead you in the right direction.

It is our hope that this financial award will motivate all students to strive to reach their fullest potential, realizing a true life lesson – that hard work and dedication, as an active participant in our school community, may reap other rewards.

A partial scholarship will be awarded to a Father Judge student in his sophomore year, to be applied to his junior and senior years' tuition. Some Faculty and Advisors will be asked to nominate students who have the following attributes:

  1. Proven academic record which demonstrates that the student is working to his fullest potential.
  2. Participates in extra-curricular activities, other than athletics
  3. Displays leadership qualities;
  4. Exhibits self-discipline;
  5. Presents a positive impact with peers and in the local community.
  6. Athletic Participation

Annually, between April and May, the Father Judge Faculty and Staff will be asked to submit written recommendations, for each Nominee.   The Committee will review all recommendation letters and interview each Nominee.   Awardees will be notified in June.

Scholarships may be awarded to more than one student.

Fund Raising & Funds Management:

Fundraisers for the Edward A. Peters Memorial Scholarship will be held twice a year.
